How comfortable would you feel taking a good hard look at the state of your beauty cabinet, pouch, drawers? Suggesting a general household spring clean may be out of the question seeing as there’s a good chance that it’s already crossed your mind if you haven’t done it. However, we would suggest a spring clean in the compartment of your home that many of us tend to neglect, you’re cosmetics and toiletries. This is especially vital for anyone who has a lot of products whether you have an ample makeup collection or love to thrive in current skincare trends that require 12 step routines. Here we are going to break down the process and make it as easy as possible.
Empty Your Shelves/Drawers/Pouches
Begin by emptying your shelves so you can neatly categorize your products. Split them into the following three: Products that you regularly use, products that you don’t always use but still want to keep, and products that it’s time to throw away. Products that you regularly use can go back onto your easily accessible shelves, products that you don’t always use should be stored in a cool and dry place that will keep them fresh for longer, and all expired products should expectedly be disposed of.
Switch Things Up
After cleaning your products and shelves, you may want to consider rearranging your beauty cabinet set up. If you have ever reorganized the furniture in a room of your home out of pure spontaneity, you can probably relate to the satisfaction that little bit of change can bring. It can draw you towards that certain room more just like this can freshen up your attitude towards your beauty routine. It can also slightly spice up the cleaning process making it feel like less of a mundane chore.
Don’t Forget Your Tools!
Make sure not to dismiss your brushes and tools. This applies to any facial and hair accessories including toiletries, hairbrushes, makeup brushes, cleansing devices, and even your hair styling tools. For plastic hairbrushes, mix soap and warm water into a bowl and let the brush soak. For wooden brushes, add a few drops of tea tree oil into a cup and apply on the bristles and base using an old toothbrush. Sharpers can also be scrubbed with a toothbrush dipped in rubbing alcohol and rinsed with water. Metals tools, such as tweezers and eyelash curlers should first be rinsed with soap and water, followed by a wipe down with a piece of cotton soaked in rubbing alcohol.
It probably goes without saying that you shouldn’t wet hair styling tools. What you can do instead, after making sure that the appliance is completely cool, is wet a cotton pad and go over the surfaces a few times before wiping them down with a damp cloth then followed by a dry one. Skin devices tend to differ depending on the material so you can likely find the best cleaning method on the product’s instructions. Lastly, makeup brushes which you should definitely be cleaning regularly can be washed under the sink with shampoo as you would with your hair.
We do understand that this is probably not the most exciting way to pass your time which makes it tempting to procrastinate. However, getting it out of the way now is one of the best things you can do; aside from the importance of having a clean beauty station, you will feel so much better knowing that it’s done. Plus it will help encourage you to stay on top of your routine which is exceptionally important in times like these.
Most of us consider our product’s hygiene, but when is the last time that you properly cleaned your beauty cabinet?
