The ever-changing fast-paced nature of trends perfectly mirrors the definition itself. The public is always wanting something fresh; not necessarily something that‘s never been seen before, as we have seen history repeat itself countlessly in the beauty world, just something that hasn’t been overused within the last few years. That being said, novelty is always exciting within makeup and provides an amazing platform for all those creatives who want to experiment with their products to push the limit. Beauty brands should always be taking educated predictions into consideration in order to prepare their new ranges according to what’s going to sell. Read on for an insight into 11 trends predicted to take off in 2020!
Brightly Coloured Mascara
Not only is brightly coloured mascara is fun and quirky, but it doesn’t have to be ridiculously noticeable which is perfect for those who want to try something different without being risky. Say you try out a darker colour like blue, the application won’t be too intense but your makeup will definitely pop. Two brands that are ahead of the game are YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara and Urban Decay Double Team Special Effect coloured Mascara Duo.
Toning Down The Neon
Whilst the neon makeup trend has been interesting, a full face of it can be slightly overbearing. Neon colours are a great way to give your makeup some serious flare but might be even better as a subtler finishing touch. An example of this is dabbing a small amount of neon shadow in the corner of your eye. From high end to drugstore, there are many brands that sell neon coloured makeup due to how the previous version of its usage is already in trend.
Bright Pink Lip
This rising trend is set out to replace the bold red lip, in 2020 anyway. The bright pink lip is already becoming known as the new statement look. The are both extraordinary bold and stand out in a way that projects an authoritative kind of confidence. Pink can have the same effect and works best when applied on a minimal look. A couple of favorites include Pat Mcgrath Labs MatteTrance Lipstick Full Panic and Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Velvet Underground.
Floating Eyeliner
You are probably familiar with the 60’s British supermodel, Twiggy, as she was well known for her iconic makeup loo. The floating eyeliner look has already begun to revisit the beauty world and is foreseen to stay through 2020. That being said, the way it has been resurfaced is not identical to the 60’s version. Not only have most of today’s consumers opted for a liquid liner instead of the dustier looking penciled liner they used back then, but some of the modern adjustments are literally “floating”. Whilst Twiggy would apply it in the eyelid crease, consumers have been drawing it slightly off the crease and in some cases completely letting it float between the eyelid and eyebrow.
Structured Brows Are Back
Everyone is familiar with the most recent untamed all-natural eyebrow trend. Predictions state that 2020 is the year for eyebrow gel. Full eyebrows will still be popular except with a more polished finish. Glossier Boy Brow is currently one of the most sought after eyebrow gels followed by Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel.
Minimal foundation
The minimal foundation look that you have probably noticed coming into trend for quite a while now, is definitely here to stay! With a great deal more focus on skincare, we are now more interested in having a clear and healthy canvas in order to pull off a more natural look instead of using full coverage to compensate for a lack of care. There are many great light coverage foundations and BB creams currently on the market, some of which include Glossier’s Perfecting Skin Tint and La Roche-Posay Hydreane BB Cream.
Pastel Eyeliner
Pastel eyeliner is set to replace 2019’s neon eyeliner trend. Pastel colours are great as they can be fun and interesting without being too much. Like neon, they definitely stand out but pastels are a much softer way of making your eye makeup pop! Nyx’s Vivid Brights Liner range has quite an extended selection offering nine different colours!
Embellishments
According to makeup artist Michael Ashton, face embellishments will be a “trend that continues to grow in 2020”. The glistening addition can be a perfect way to bring a full face of makeup to life. Mac Star Stud collection does this so well; the two-piece set is a great way to accentuate lipstick without looking carnival-like, which is quite easy when using embellishments if it’s not done right.
Subtle Lip Tint
Lip stains are a great pick for those of us who don’t want to keep reapplying our lipstick. Of course, better quality lipsticks don’t come off very easily but lip stains are usually longer lasting and lightweight feel on our lips. Although there have recently been many bright shades of lip tints in trend, 2020 favours a subtler application. This can be done with pretty much any lip stain if applied properly. At a promised 10 hour lasting and hydrating lip stain, the YSL Vinyl Cream Lip Stain is currently one of the favorites on the market.
Pink Blush
A brighter and heavier blush is making its way back into trend. Predictions are saying that you can expect all kinds of variations of this look from flushing a dramatic colour across the cheekbones to completely replacing your bronzer by draping it up to the temples and even underneath the brow bones. Cream blushes are a good start to someone who is less experienced using blush with a good product example being the Tom Ford Soleil Neige Highlighter & Blush Glow Stick.
Vinyl Lip Trends
Recently it seems that the dewy beauty trend has become so popular that it’s bound to stick around for 2020. From colour pop pigments to flushed neutral shades, this fast-growing trend appeals to many gloss loving consumers and is definitely worth including within your brand. Check out the Iconic London Lip Plumping Gloss and Jouer Cosmetics High Pigment Lip Gloss collections as they serve as good examples for your potential range.
It seems that 2020’s bringing back some old, current, and newer favorites whilst re-developing them in a fresh new light. From the dismissal of full coverage foundation to the rebirth of floating eyeliner and so much more, this will likely be an interesting year for the world of beauty!
